A new game hits Steam every 25 minutes

Welcome to Loot Table, our new weekly drop where we take one number from the games world, roll it around, and work out what it actually means for you: the person with a controller in hand and a backlog that judges you every time you open Steam.

This week: just how many games are out there now. Spoiler, it is a lot. Buckle up.

21,323 games in a single year

a new all-time record • roughly one every 25 minutes

To put it in human terms: that is about 58 brand new games every single day. In the time it takes you to finish a coffee and lose one ranked match, another game has quietly appeared on the store.

The climb is not slowing down. Each of the last few years has broken the record set by the year before it.

The good news and the overwhelming news

Both of these are true at the same time.

The overwhelming part: with 58 games landing a day, most of them are never going to get seen. Even genuinely brilliant games can vanish under the pile in a weekend. If you have ever wishlisted something and then completely forgotten it existed, that is not you being disorganised. That is just the sheer scale of the thing.

The good news: there has never been a better time to be a player who likes to dig. Every strange little idea you can imagine now exists as a real game. A cozy sim about running a haunted post office? Probably out. A fighting game where you attack by typing? Funny you should ask. The weird, specific, made with love stuff is thriving. You just have to go looking for it instead of waiting for it to reach the front page.

How to actually find the good ones

A few honest tips from people who both make and play these things. Follow curators, not just the charts, because a good Steam curator will surface ten hidden gems the storefront never will. Play demos with abandon, since thirty minutes is enough to know if something clicks. And when a small game does grab you, leave a review: on a store this crowded, a handful of honest reviews is the difference between a tiny game getting found and getting buried.

That is the drop for this week. There are more games waiting for you than you could finish in ten lifetimes, and honestly, that is a wonderful problem to have.
